Ford ecoboost wetbelt

We had a customer bring their Ford Focus 1 litre EcoBoost in for a wetbelt change. This is a very involved job as a lot of components have to be removed to gain access to the belt. The exhaust also has to be removed to remove the sump to check for belt debris in the oil pick up.

First we start by stripping the top end removing coil packs, fuel injectors, fuel rail and cam cover. We then remove the exhaust system, drain the oil and remove the sump. Once the sump is removed we can check the oil pick up strainer for any belt debris causing it to become blocked. As you can see in the photos below this oil pick up had a large amount of belt debris - luckily not fully blocking it!

Next we remove the drivers side engine mount and lock the crank shaft so we can remove the crank shaft pulley. Once the pulley has been removed we can then remove the timing belt cover.

Once we have gained access to the timing belt we can then use the locking tools to hold the camshafts in position and carry out the belt replacement.

Once the belt and tensioner have been replaced (including oil pump drive belt) and all mating surfaces have been cleaned of silicone we can then apply new sealant and reassemble the timing cover and sump.

After this is done we reassemble all other parts and leave the vehicle to sit overnight to allow the sealant to fully cure. This ensures that there are no oil leaks from the timing belt cover and sump.

The next day we fill the engine with oil and coolant and start the vehicle. We run it up to temperature and carry out an extensive road test. We then do one final check of the oil and coolant levels and check for any leaks.
